Home Networking Chipsets: Wireless, Powerline and Phoneline IC Markets
A Strategic Analysis of the Home Networking Silicon Opportunity

As home networking begins to reach a critical mass, it represents a significant opportunity for component vendors. Thus the primary focus of this study is to forecast the integrated circuit (IC) market for "no new wires" home networking technology. The transmission media examined include phoneline, powerline and wireless. The markets for these three categories are forecast through to 2006 in terms of IC shipments, average selling prices (ASPs) and revenues. The study contains a thorough coverage of existing technologies, both proprietary and standard. These technologies include HomePNA, HomeRF, 802.11b/g/a, HiperLAN2, Ultra Wideband (UWB) and HomePlug. Every technology is assessed with respect to its competitive position and future prospects. A major portion of the study is dedicated to covering the major component providers. Each of these players' current and future technology and product offerings are examined, and an analysis of their participation in the market is provided.
